Hiking Lake Tahoe

There are many reasons why vacationers flock to Lake Tahoe. Although we have the beauty of Shirley Canyon at Squaw Valley, there is a magnificant 165 mile trail that awaits your discovery. The Tahoe Rim trail circles the perimeter of Lake Tahoe, passes through two states and even six counties. Hikers are not the only ones to enjoy the view; horses and mountain bikes are allowed in specified areas. There are also three wilderness areas if you’re feeling extremely adventurous.

If you’re looking for something the whole family is sure to enjoy, head out with the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for a “Vistas, Lakes and Wildflowers” this Saturday, July 30th at 8:00am. This hike focuses on a climb to Twin Peaks and Granite Chief Wilderness with breathtaking vistas and an abundant bloom of wildflowers in season. Click here for further details.

If you would like to head out on your own, a popular and famous spot for Lake Tahoe hikers is Eagle Falls. It is a relatively short and easy hike (surprisingly so), with rewarding vistas and waterfall views. With our incredible snowfall this year, the waterfalls are raging. Normally waterfalls to this degree appear in May or June, but visitors can enjoy the water level well through summer this year.

Whether you choose to ride the Cable Car up to High Camp and hike down through Shirley Canyon, or take a short drive to Paige Meadows or Eagle Falls to hike with loved ones, we know you will enjoy the breathtaking flora and fauna this time of year.
