Although some are celebrating Cinco de Mayo on Saturday evening (perhaps to avoid that margarita hangover on Monday morning) there’s always the historic Kentucky Derby Day on Saturday, May 4 that’s cause for celebration! You technically don’t have to choose between bourbon and tequila: mint julep or margarita? In fact, we have just the spot for you to celebrate both on this very warm, spring weekend in May: River Ranch Lodge in Tahoe City/Alpine Meadows!

Kidzone is a local museum in Truckee-Tahoe, where children of all ages can explore, learn and discover. The annual Kidzone Museum Fundraiser is back for another year to benefit fun and educational programs for children. This year’s them: Rock Starz “Pick Your Band, Pick Your Decade, Pick Your Star” is held at Dragonfly Restaurant on April 27.

Tickets are only $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Includes food and one drink (beer, wine or specialty cocktail), music, dancing, raffle, and silent and live auctions. There is still time to donate an item for auction or to the raffle, become an event sponsor, or even volunteer!

Spring has barely sprung, but we know next winter is probably not far from your mind … more powder, new gear. You might have been eyeing some skis or boards you wanted to demo this year, right?

Well, here’s your chance. And it’s a good one!

If you’re a Ski Service Card Member join Granite Chief  in celebrating their 30th year at a Demo Day & BBQ on Saturday, April 6th. For 30 years Ski Service Card Members have been testing next year’s skis, getting a pre-season discount, and chowing down at our end of the season spring BBQ.

Granite Chief depends on your feed back on what skis you think are HOT and which are not. Your passion for skiing helps them with next year’s ski line-up.

THE DETS:

Sign up starts at 9am in the Squaw Valley Lodge Meeting Room.

Take each ski out for 2 or 3 runs and let us know what you like.

When you purchase your skis for next year Granite Chief will give you a preseason discount and your new skis will be ready for pickup next fall.

Event runs 9am to 3pm.

This is a great opportunity to talk with the Granite Chief staff, the ski manufacture reps, select your perfect ski, and chow down on some grub! If you’re not a Ski Service Card Member contact Granite Chief; they’ll give you the lowdown, and sign you up!

St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Irish Special at River Ranch: Head on down to the River Ranch from 12PM-8PM, and take a seat on the deck under such sunny skies, with traditional Irish cuisine and drink specials.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Homewood & West Shore Inn: This is a great combo to quench your hunger for skiing and St. Patty’s Day food and drink! Start your day at Homewood at 9AM, where they offer their signature  ”I Shamrock Homewood” t-shirts. Once you’re off the slopes, cross the street for live music, as well as a classic corned beef and cabbage feast (until 11PM).

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Auld Dubliner: Squaw Valley’s authentic Irish pub (literally imported from Dublin, Ireland) is definitely the place to be and be seen on St. Patty’s Day! If you’re looking for the best Shephard’s Pie or Traditional Beef Stew and a Guiness on the side, then make your way here. We suggest a Black and Tan.

Looking for a unique skiing experience? Then look no further!

A Nachtspektakel (pronounced knocked-shpeck-tockle) is a traditional European-style ski event that is actually a cultural norm in Europe. It’s a genius idea that combines skiing, drinking and eating. So why not spend a Saturday evening skinning up Squaw Valley to High Camp,  meeting new friends who enjoy the sport, and top off the night with drinks and dinner?

Event Details:

•          Saturday, February 9 at 3pm. Meet at the Tram at 2:30pm.

•           $50 in advance at Alpenglow Sports | $60 day-of, on-site.

•           Alpenglow Sports offers free rentals all day for the tour. Must be picked up by 1pm. Rental gear can be returned at the end of the tour at the event, or at the shop the next day.

•           Make sure you dress appropriately with warm uphill gear, skis, skins, boots, poles and headlamp! Consider bringing a change of clothes for drinks and dinner afterward at High Camp.
