17th Annual Lake Tahoe Marathon

It’s almost here!

One of the most difficult marathons in the nation, but certainly the most rewarding with the stunning views of Lake Tahoe! This race is not for the faint of heart! Lake Tahoe Marathon Week hosts an incredible amount of events: 30 plus! 

The Lake Tahoe Marathon starts Sunday, September 30, on Commons Beach in Tahoe City and finishes on Pope Beach near South Lake Tahoe. Runners follow a course that runs the entire Western length of Lake Tahoe.

On Friday, September 28, and Saturday, September 29, runners can race two other different marathons or half marathons. There is the Emerald Bay Marathon on Friday, and the Cal-Neva Marathon on Saturday. Run them a la carte or with the Tahoe Triple Marathoners. Or, runners can choose the Tahoe Trifecta: Run 3 different half-marathons in 3 days!

Girls on the Run 5K/10K

It’s that time of year again!  Girls on the Run Sierras (GOTR) has finished another active spring season, encouraging young girls to move forward by teaming them up with local volunteers: walking, jogging and running their way toward healthy self-esteem! To celebrate the end of season, GOTR hosts a 5K/10K race for the participants, and any other runners looking for a fun 5K/10K in Truckee!

So grab your running shoes, and get ready for a super fun run on Sunday, June 10th in support of an organization changing the lives of girls in our local community!

The Lowdown:

What: GOTR Fun Run 5K/10K

Where: Truckee River View Sports Park, 12200 Joerger Drive, Truckee, CA 

When: Sunday, June 10th. Registration begins at 8:30am. Race starts at 10:00am.

Run Away Autumn

Fall is actually a wonderful time to get in some refreshing runs, and fight the holiday pounds we all appreciate so much. Those rich, comfort foods entice us as the temperature drops and we search for a tasty way to warm our bodies.

Well, here’s a way to make room for more of those delectable pumpkin pies, sweet potato casseroles and hot chocolates topped with whipped cream. The local region offers many “trots” and races, for all types of runners wanting to fend off the pounds this season. Dig out your gloves and beenies for fall race season!

32nd Annual Apple Hill Harvest Run

  • Camino, CA (ParaVi Winery)
  • Choose from three courses: 8.5 mile, 3.5 or a  .5mile Kids’ Fun Run. Dating back to 1979, the Apple Hill Harvest Run began as a way to prolong “tourist season” in Apple Hill, and now attracts more than 2,000 participants a year. All proceeds benefit local Camino schools, and a percentage goes toward the funding of two educational scholarships. Why not run around beautiful ParaVi Vineyard and benefit the education of local students?

35th Annual Donner Lake Turkey Trot

  • Truckee, CA (Donner Lake West End Beach)
  • This is a pleasurable run for the whole family to get ready for ski season! Adults and young adults can register for the full 7 miles around Donner Lake while the younger ones run the Mashed Potato Mile. You can’t beat the course at Donner Lake; fairly flat in elevation on the North Shore, although there are some shorter hills to tackle on the South Shore of Donner.
