There’s a fabulous variety of totally fun tourist attractions and things to do in North Lake Tahoe to suit every taste, from skiing and snowboarding in winter to fishing and water sports in the summer. Plus, there is plenty of dining, shopping and activities when it’s time to come inside. Whether you’re looking to hit the slopes or hit the shops, restaurants, spas or the casino tables, you’ll find it all in beautiful Lake Tahoe, California. The Squaw Valley Lodge provides the perfect spot to experience it all!

Midweek is Best Time for Your Tahoe Getaway!

This record season of snow is still stacking up in the Lake Tahoe basin! Just when we get a break from the dumping snow – when the skies part and I-80 opens – another storm moves through. Will it ever stop? We don’t know. And we’re not complaining! (Scroll below to get a visual taste of the epic powder we’ve got!)

With 500 inches of snow this winter – 50 more than average annual Tahoe snowfall – weekend lodging is practically sold out for the season at Squaw Valley Lodge. We understand the convenience of weekend getaways, but as locals we can certainly make a case for midweek stays as the best time to visit. Here’s why:

Discounts, discounts, discounts! With our best rates of the season, you can SAVE up to 30% OFF your midweek stay. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are our lowest nightly rates! Bonus: if you book directly through Squaw Valley Lodge you can save even more with Granite Chief club rates (just ask a Reservation Agent for details). Click here to book direct.

Less crowds! A local favorite, there’s nothing like a fairly quiet Tuesday morning finding yourself on KT-22 first chair. They’ve happened more often than not this winter.

Less traffic! Rather than sitting in a long line of cars on Highway 89, zip into town quickly. If you need to head into Downtown Truckee for any supplies less traffic means you’ll have more time on the mountain. In the powder. In pure heaven. And as always, enjoy the pleasure of ski-in/ski-out lodging at Squaw Valley Lodge!

Lake Tahoe’s First Big Storm For 2015/16 Ski Season

Fall snow at Squaw Valley Lodge

Earlier this week fall quickly faded into winter, as over a foot of snow fell at Squaw Valley. It was a beautiful way to kick off November, blanketing the mountain in fresh powder. With the California drought and lower snow levels from the past four years, it was a hefty storm for fall, and a pleasant surprise for the area.

Since we received so much snow on Monday, November 2, Mt. Rose Ski Resort opened for the season on Wednesday (November 4) as the first ski resort open in the Tahoe basin, and Boreal Mountain Resort opened today as the first ski resort open for the season in California! The colder temperatures this week also meant Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows was able to get in tons of snow making. Squaw Alpine is still slated to open Wednesday, November 25 in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

There are two things we do need to point out considering the early snowfall: 1. If you don’t have your Tahoe Super Pass yet, you’re blowing it big time and need to purchase one stat. You can do that HERE. 2. If you haven’t booked your winter ski getaway, you need to do that stat. And also take advantage of our insanely good fall rates we have going on right now. You can still ski/ride in the area if you stay with us, and also take advantage of everything happening at The Village at Squaw.

Twilight Snowshoe Tour at North Lake Tahoe

Sun setting SV cam 3

There is nothing like the mountains at sunset. The alpen glow is enchanting. One of the most beautiful and invigorating things about Lake Tahoe in the winter time is a chilly night under the stars. On a clear night – oh the stars! They light up the sky.

Though skiing and snowboarding are such fun at Squaw Alpine, why not try something new like snowshoeing? Twilight Snowshoe Tours are going on this winter at Northstar Resort, where you’ll enjoy a guided evening tour under the stars and through Sierra Nevada trees at mountain top. The 2 to 2.5 hour trek starts out at the Cross Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center at 5pm, and caps off the evening around a fire pit with s’mores and hot cocoa. How about an adventure for the whole family before you have to tuck the kiddos in for the night?

Upcoming January Dates

January 10, 17, 18
